As a typical high school student too focused on getting into a good University, while also being 'cool,' I hadn't given practical thought on what my goals were in life beyond high school. Kevin Bibo's class and the Digital Dogz opened up a new world of opportunity: to explore the world of digital media. Now I've been working in the digital advertising space for 8 years. Today I spend most of my time traveling to various European markets and training major ad agencies and brands on the importance of digital video in their advertising buys. Without Bibo's influence, I would never have been inspired to pursue this fast paced and rewarding career. I came into the Digital Dogs knowing with a burning passion for what I wanted to do for the rest of my life, but it was in Room 1 where I realized how. Kevin Bibo challenged me, a head in the clouds student, to come back down to Earth and consolidate my ideas in a way I could share and collabarote with others. The idea of Bibo's class for me wasn't just to play in the sandbox in regards to multimedia entertainment. It was how to use technology as a story device, to share information with others in the most creative way possible. That's what made "The Friday Show" so unique, we had to find a way each week to give out the most general school information in a way teachers and staff could appreciate, but also appease the students. The importance of teamwork and finding how to affectedly reach your audience are just two of many invaluable concepts I've taken from Room 1 and I will take with me for the rest of my career. [My son] Blake was in Kevin’s classes for four years. Kevin quickly identified my son’s special abilities (he is a self-taught computer animator) and accelerated his course work. Soon Blake’s vision of what kind of career he might have was enriched and expanded by Kevin’s suggestions and experience with former students. Kevin continued to show Blake different things he could do with his skills and challenged him to use his abilities with more and more complex tasks. |
It is difficult to express the nature of the impact Professor Bibo has had in my life - mostly because it has been multifaceted. Although my experiences at the University of Redlands have all been positive, it was in his course and because of his class, experience, and leadership that I awoke from a deep slumber and rediscovered my drive - something that I had somehow lost. I taught my first lesson and I felt like a teacher for the first time in his course. As a colleague, Kevin Bibo has always been present when I have needed him. His advice has always steered me true. At a bare minimum, I can say that he has played a pivotal role in my development, both as a learner and as an educator. If I'm being honest, I would not be where I am today if it was not for him. I thank you for being my teacher, I appreciate you as my colleague, and I would easily follow you as my leader. I could say The Digital Dogz gave me the skills to use a camera, editing software, and meeting deadlines, but it taught me something much more useful than that. It gave me the confidence and audacity to take projects from start to finish. The Digital Dogz taught me follow through. Digital Dogs gave me confidence in my creative abilities and experience in working on time sensitive projects. I loved every minute of it and didn't even know I was learning the skills I would need to succeed. I always expected to use some of the skills I learned in Mr. Bibo's classroom, but I never would have guess how important they "all" would become. From the technical importance of sound, lighting, and pre-production, to the realities of deadlines and working with a production team, my experience with the Digital Dogz helped lay the foundation for my career in media broadcast. |
